iProVPN Speed Test Review
iProVPN has passed the speed test at a download speed of up to 173Mbps. It’s the new cheap, secure, and speedy VPN network launched in September 2020. This VPN is already powering over 200 servers across 16+ countries worldwide. It’s rapidly expanding its network globally.
iProVPN is quite a new contender on the market. It has a small network but quickly growing to join those rivals in competition. Well, it has some work to do there. But that doesn’t leave them behind. It has a fast download speed for such a small network which keeps me impressed.
While speed is one known topic in any VPN, iProVPN offers all features that place them in the list of VPNs to consider. Some of its features are its accessibility, P2P optimization, security protocols, and privacy standards.
Although iProVPN is accessible in over 16 major countries, you have the option to request to add your preferred location.
Its current list of countries are:
- Czech Republic
- United Kingdom
- United States
Let’s dive deeper!
Data security is your priority while browsing online, especially over public WI-FI. Without security, any malicious software can get onto your device without you noticing. This software causes serious damage that could lead to data loss.
A VPN does not only make your device appear anonymous, it secures your connection through its tunnel. That’s why most of them use the AES 256 bit encryption. It encrypts the internet connection so that your data becomes completely unreadable. Thus prevent hackers, malicious software to penetrate through.
Kill Switch is another feature that extends security. It protects data if ever you lose connection to the VPN server. With iProVPN, you can set it up with one click from its Settings menu. Besides, iProVPN uses the AES 256-bit by default. So, no need to worry about extra configuration. Once connected, it encrypts the internet connection automatically. Furthermore, it has Malware Protection and the Adblocker feature.
The AdBlocker works very well. I used threatpost.com as a test to show you.
This is how threatpost.com looks like without iProVPN. There are plenty of annoying ads all over the website.
However, when connecting to iProVPN, all these annoying ads are blocked. You can enjoy the reading and focus on your article.
iProVPN VPN Protocols
A VPN protocol is rarely something to worry about in a good VPN service. Instead, it is a technical aspect of any VPN. Most VPN Service providers offer a set of protocols for different needs. One of them is OpenVPN UDP protocol. OpenVPN is considered as a robust VPN protocol. It has speed, strong encryption, very stable, great for P2P, and best for streaming videos.
People are using VPN for different things over the internet. Some are looking for a safe internet browsing, where others for streaming videos or online gaming. Some users like torrenting or remote working.
Hence, iProVPN offers a set of 5 VPN protocols to accommodate your needs.
You can choose either UDP, TCP, IKEV2, L2TP, or PPTP protocols from its dashboard.
UDP is significantly faster than TCP and other VPN protocols out there. It is the preferred VPN protocol for streaming HD videos, downloading or uploading, and P2P. Not to forget, best for torrenting.
TCP (Transmission Control Protocol) is not as fast as UDP. TCP assigns each data packet a unique identifier where UDP doesn’t. The receiver identifies which data packet was received and next to arrive. This protocol is likely used whenever you send emails, chat with friends, or browse over the web.
IKEV2 stands for Internet Key Exchange version 2. Another advanced fast VPN protocol with a balance of security and speed. It provides a stable connection that makes it ideal for mobile devices.
L2TP (Layer 2 Tunneling Protocol) is more secure than PPTP but not as fast. Its double data encapsulation makes it slower than PPTP. L2TP uses 256-bit keys when paired with IPSec. Hence, this protocol is more secure for web browsing.
PPTP stands for Point-to-Point Tunneling Protocol. It works similar to L2TP but faster and less secure. Nothing to impress with this VPN protocol.
Overall, UDP or IKEV2 is the preferred VPN protocol for most people.
There is no good VPN without speed, although VPN’s main job is privacy and security. As a small VPN service, iProVPN speed tests impress me compared to other rivals out there.
Speed Test without iProVPN
Below is the download speed without a VPN connection. The download speed is reaching 250 Mbps on average. While the upload speed is hitting up to 15 Mbps and ping is 25-28 ms on average.
Speed Test with iProVPN
When connected to France iProVPN, the download speed test reached as high as 173 Mbps with an upload speed of 14 Mbps.
However, when changing to USA, the download speed went down to 100 Mbps with an upload speed of 12 Mbps.
iProVPN download and upload speeds for both countries are in the average ranking. That means you can enjoy streaming HD videos without any buffer.
While we are talking about speed, any internet speed is likely to be affected while connected to any VPN. Even, those fast internet connection gets affected. With that said, bear in mind that a VPN server does a lot of work in the background. Thus, it impacts the overall internet connection.
Generally, you will experience slowness during busy times. The reason behind is that there are so many requests to the same server. Hence, causes the service to deteriorate. But, most VPN Service offers hundreds of servers, for you to switch from one server to another.
iProVPN has over 200 servers with unlimited server switching. If one is busy, you can switch to the next one. It comes with unlimited bandwidth, so the ball is with your ISP.
IP & DNS leaks are other crucial tests for any VPN. There are several free tools online that can help you detect these leaks. One of the free tools that I used is ipleak.org. You can test your IP & DNS while connected to one of its VPN servers. For this test, I connected to one server in France.
As expected, the IP test leak result shows a virtual IP from France. While testing the DNS leak, the ISP DNS did not show as expected. That means iProVPN has successfully passed both IP & DNS leak tests.
iProVPN app supports almost all OS and Devices. The application installs effortlessly on Windows Operating System, Mac, Android, Linux System, iOS, Fire TV Stick, Chromebook, and even on your routers.
Although the app is super user-friendly, it requires some updates. Whether from the graphical perspective and functional side of the application. The app hangs while trying to connect to UK 2 server. I also encountered delays when connecting to any country.
Its app extension supports both Firefox and Chrome. Furthermore, for home devices, it runs on smart TVs, Apple TV, Roku, and Chromecast. Gamers can get it directly on to their consoles like Playstation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch.
While its app supports all these devices, it can only connect up to 10 devices simultaneously. Although you can connect so many devices simultaneously, this can affect your internet speed with or without a VPN.
Overall, iProVPN is a new VPN. It is rapidly expanding its VPN network. But yet a lot of work to do. The VPN is safe to test on your device. It has a 30-day money-back guarantee.
iProVPN is only $0.99 for the first week when signing up with its yearly plan. If you are satisfied, you can renew at $24.95 per year.
